Arrate Martin

The sense of emptiness

Trained in Textile Design and printing in the United Kingdom, Basque artist Arrate Martin has evolved from textile patterns toward an abstract, dynamic, and intuitive pictorial language. In her most recent works, she applies acrylic paint with millimeter‐precise accuracy to channel her emotions and personal experiences through a unique visual vocabulary that oscillates between the organic and the geometric.
With an almost sculptural approach, Arrate Martin transforms the canvas into a space where matter converses with absence. Every line, color, and shape interacts with emptiness—not as a lack, but as a structural element of the work. Inspired by the sculptural oeuvre of Eduardo Chillida, the artist carries the tension between the solid and the intangible onto her canvases. Her deeply personal creative process is an exercise in harmony that gives visual form to feelings and sensations impossible to express in words.

Arrate Martin’s BYPILLOW Bilbo Project

For BYPILLOW Bilbo, Arrate Martin has created an exclusive collection of 24 hand‐painted panels, integrated into the hotel’s contemporary aesthetic through a color palette of mustard, black, green, and blue hues. Her artworks serve as points of connection between guest and environment, generating a balanced atmosphere in each room. In this context, emptiness takes on its own presence, inviting the traveler to experience it as something evocative and suggestive, endowed with new meaning.
