María Melero

The Secret Language of Objects

María Melero is a visual artist and illustrator from Jerez with a career spanning editorial, advertising, and exhibition fields. Trained in Graphic Design and Illustration, she has worked for brands such as Cruzcampo, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, San Miguel, and Macallan, and in 2017 she exhibited at John Maloof’s prestigious gallery in Chicago. Her work explores the relationship between the everyday and the symbolic, using art as a bridge between tradition and a contemporary perspective.

Artistic Manifesto

Melero constructs a pictorial universe where objects transcend their function and become symbols. Her aesthetic, close to surrealism, plays with arrangement, color, and light to give an enigmatic aura to the everyday. With a palette of earthy tones and greens that evoke the south, her compositions are reminiscent of classic still lifes, but with a formal refinement that brings them closer to a modern language. In her work, the elements seem to contain a hidden meaning, inviting a slow observation and a reading beyond the apparent.

The Project at BYPILLOW Casa Gades (Cádiz)

At BYPILLOW Casa Gades, Melero transforms the common areas into a space where art dialogues with the Andalusian essence. Her series of paintings reinterprets traditional objects —water jugs, pitchers, ceramics, and sculptural elements— through a balanced composition and a palette of warm colors that evokes the light and memory of the south. Her works, with refined lines and simplified volumes, play with shadow and light to generate a serene and enveloping atmosphere. More than decorative illustrations, her paintings function as a visual narrative that speaks to us of Cádiz identity through the symbolism of the everyday. Her intervention turns the hotel into a place where tradition is reinterpreted with contemporary sensibility, integrating art into the traveler’s experience.
