María Melero

The Secret Language of Objects

María Melero is a visual artist and illustrator from Jerez whose career spans the fields of publishing, advertising, and exhibitions. Trained in graphic design and illustration, she has worked for brands such as Cruzcampo, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, San Miguel, and Macallan, and in 2017 she exhibited at the prestigious John Maloof Gallery in Chicago. Her work explores the relationship between the everyday and the symbolic, using art as a bridge between tradition and a contemporary perspective.

Artistic manifesto

Melero creates a pictorial universe in which objects transcend their function and become symbols. His aesthetic, reminiscent of surrealism, plays with composition, color, and light to imbue the everyday with an enigmatic aura. With a palette of earthy tones and greens that evoke the south, his compositions are reminiscent of classical still lifes, yet their formal refinement brings them closer to a modern language. In his work, the elements seem to hold a hidden meaning, inviting careful observation and an interpretation that goes beyond the surface.

The Project at BYPILLOW Casa Gades (Cádiz)

At BYPILLOW Casa Gades, Melero transforms the common areas into a space where art dialogues with the Andalusian essence. Her series of paintings reinterprets traditional objects —water jugs, pitchers, ceramics, and sculptural elements— through a balanced composition and a palette of warm colors that evokes the light and memory of the south. Her works, with refined lines and simplified volumes, play with shadow and light to generate a serene and enveloping atmosphere. More than decorative illustrations, her paintings function as a visual narrative that speaks to us of Cádiz identity through the symbolism of the everyday. Her intervention turns the hotel into a place where tradition is reinterpreted with contemporary sensibility, integrating art into the traveler’s experience.
